Terra U Bar
For the last couple of weekends I have been hanging out in the funky 2-block stretch of San Pedro just south of the University of Costa Rica. Local Ticos refer to this area as, “La Calle de Amargura, or the “Street of Bitterness.” Bars and cafes are mixed in with several cool bookstores. After dark the streets here are packed with teens, punks, students, and professors barhopping and just hanging around. Three of my friends from church invited me to a local bar called “Terra U” to meet several of their non Christian friends on their turf. This bar is set on a busy corner in the heart of the university district, and I found out that it is quickly becoming one of the most popular bars in the area. We were able to find great seats in the open-air street-front patio area. The first weekend that we met I was able to share my story with the group and listen to their stories as well. Last weekend I was able to work through the Roman Road with the group and at the end Andreas and Juan prayed to receive Christ. Meeting with them on their own turf (a local bar) immediately opened up doors of opportunity to share my faith within their comfort zone. Right now I am trying to get Andreas and Juan interested in initiating a small group of their own at one of the local bars near Terra U. Both of them are opinion leaders and seem to have tons of friendships at the university.
